About Us
Justice and Mercy Energy Services (JustEnergy) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to designing, installing, and maintaining solar energy systems for other nonprofits. Our mission focuses on creating jobs and combating energy poverty in northern Haiti and within the United States. Rooted in our Christian faith, we emphasize social justice, combat energy poverty, and recognize the inherent dignity of all individuals.
Position Summary
As a Board Member of JustEnergy, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the organization towards achieving its mission. This includes collaboratively participating in strategic planning, financial oversight, fundraising, and ensuring the organization's activities align with its core values and objectives. We as a board commit to being ongoing learners and value the importance of reflection and dialogue.
Key Responsibilities
- Mission and Strategy:
- Uphold and advocate for JustEnergy's mission to create jobs and combat energy poverty.
- Participate in strategic planning to set long-term goals and objectives.
- Governance:
- Attend and actively participate in all board meetings.
- Contribute expertise and time.
- Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, including adherence to bylaws and policies.
- Financial Oversight:
- Review and understand financial statements to ensure strong fiduciary oversight.
- Approve annual budgets and monitor financial performance.
- Fundraising and Resource Development:
- Engage in fundraising efforts, leveraging personal and professional networks to secure resources.
- Make a meaningful personal contribution annually (of time, money, and/or talents).
- Advocacy and Public Relations:
- Act as an ambassador for JustEnergy, enhancing the organization's public image.
- Promote the organization's work within personal and professional circles.
Qualifications
- A commitment to JustEnergy's mission and values.
- Experience in nonprofit governance, renewable energy, international development, or related fields is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to contribute time and resources to support the organization's activities.
Term
Board Members serve a three-year term and are eligible for reappointment. Participation in monthly board meetings and organizational events is expected.
